Title

  • El Torogoz.

Question

  • How many times has El Salvador's national bird been seen since it was officially named that? In what states of El Salvador?

Introduction

  • I chose this question because I come from El Salvador, but don't really know a lot about it, so I thought this project will help me know at least about its national bird.
Research Summary
  • I mostly used EBird for the information. I looked and looked for the date for it officially became the national bird, but at the end Tommy found it and gave it to me. From then on I went to the Explore Data tablet on EBird, looked up its scientific name (turqoise-browed motmot) and the region and found my info and graphs shown down below.
Hypothesis
  • I think that it has been in some specific areas throughout the years. Especially in the middle areas of the country.

Methods and Materials

  • My independent variable would be the amount of times they've been seen 20 years before and after since they were officially named that the country's bird. My dependent variable will the be the number of birds that have been seen.

Graphs

  • These graphs are from throughout the years of 1999-2015. Each graph is from one specific region in El Salvador.
  • All the graphs are from EBird except the last two, but the info is from EBird.
  • The graphs are to show you the rate/amount of birds seen throughout the years.

Conclusion:

I found out that around 1,704 birds from the years of 1999-2015 have been spotted in the whole country of El Salvador. The most birds spotted in one region were 485 which was in the region of La Libertad. The least was 14 in La Union.
